Caring for your nut milk Straining Bag

    1. Before use, turn the bag inside out with the seam on the outside. This prevents food from going into the seam.
    2. After using the straining bag, turn it inside out (now with the seam on the inside.)
    3. Rinse any food debris off the material and wash the bag well under running water. Do not use any soap with perfumes as this will taint the flavour of e.g. your next batch of nut milk.

Periodically the bag should be deodorised. After the initial rinsing, there are a number of options:

Place the bag in boiling water for 20 minutes.

Put 2 teaspoons of salt in enough boiling  to dissolve the salt and cover the bag. Soak the bag for about 30 minutes to remove odours and kill germs.

Soak the bag in undiluted vinegar for 30 minutes to remove odours and destroy mould and bacteria.

Add 1 teaspoon of oxygen bleach to two cups of water. Soak the bag for 30 minutes. This bleach is non-toxic and will remove stains and deodorise, however continued use of oxygen bleach will weaken the fabric of your bag.
