What is Kimchi

Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish consisting of salted and fermented vegetables that is prepared in bulk using Napa cabbage, also known as Chinese cabbage, together with various vegetables, herbs and warming chili powders.

It is made using fermentation pots such as the Fermenta .

The process of fermentation is different to the conventionally used pickling method, which utilises vinegar. Fermentation uses anaerobic processes to prepare the food to be long lasting.

What are the main ingredients used to make Kimchi?

The key ingredient is Napa cabbage is a Chinese cabbage. the leaves are much softer than the traditional cabbage that we are familiar with.

In addition kimchi usually contains radish, green onion, and is spiced with garlic, ginger and Korean red pepper powder known as gochugaru in Korean.  The red pepper is not so hot as it is tasty.

What are the health benefits of Kimchi

Kimchi is eaten as a condiment to most Korean meals and one needs to question the reason for this.

A key reason would be the fact that Kimchi is a fermented food that are a good source of probiotics ,which are friendly bacteria that are really good for gut health.

Further good reasons to include Kimchi in your diet is that it is low in carbs contains zero fat but does contain some fiber.
